Cement Trade Statistics Dashboard December 2025 (REVISED)
Cement imports into South Africa remained elevated at the end of the year. In December 2025, imported cement volumes amounted to 81 598 tons, reflecting a 37% year-on-year increase compared with December 2024. Imports in the month were dominated by shipments from Vietnam, with additional volumes from Mozambique and Namibia, and continued to enter mainly through the ports of Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. Despite a slight softening from the exceptionally high levels recorded in October and November, December imports remained well above historical averages, underscoring sustained reliance on foreign supply to supplement local production. A stronger ZAR further supported higher import volumes.
For 2025 as a whole, South Africa imported a total of approximately 1.5 million tons of cement, representing a 28% increase year-on-year and was the highest annual import volume on record. Average monthly imports rose sharply to about 124 000 tons, compared with roughly 933 000 tons in 2024, with Vietnam accounting for the bulk of the increase. The surge in imports during 2025 contributed to a significantly wider cement trade deficit and reflects a combination of strong demand, domestic supply constraints and competitive import pricing, even as the average FOB import price eased slightly toward the end of the year.
