Gross Fixed Capital Formation as a percentage of GDP edged slightly higher in the 2nd quarter of 2022 to 14.4 percent from 14.3 percent the previous quarter. Against a GDP contraction of 1.3 percent q-q, total fixed investment increased by 1.3 percent q-q, supported by higher levels of investment by the government (up 2.5 percent q-q) and the private sector (1.5 percent q-q), while investment by public corporations continue to decline. Value add by construction rose 0.5 percent, but total fixed investment in construction (GFCF for residential, non-residential and construction works) fell by 0.2 percent q-q (SA annualised rates) in the last quarter of 2022 but measured on a year on year basis investment levels improved by 2.6 percent.
