CRMS Dashboard April 2024

The Composite CRMS index gained 0.5 percent in April 2024, following a 12.7 percent q-q gain in the 1st quarter. in the preceding quarter. On a year on year basis the index ended marginally higher by 0.6 percent. 

The composite CRMS index (including market capitalisation values of contractors, suppliers, retailers, selected residential and non-residential property funds) gained 0.5 percent m-m in April 2024,  (compared to the previous month), following an overall increase of 12.7 percent in Q1. The Suppliers' sub-index recorded the strongest gain in April, with Afrimat's market cap value recording an 11 percent m-m increase. Aveng and Calgro supported a marginal 1.8 percent gain in the Contractors index, with Octodec supporting a 5.5 percent gain in the Residential Property Fund index.  The Retailers index was pulled lower by a 7 percent loss in Italtile, while Growthpoint and Resilient contriubted to an overall loss of 1.5 percent m-m in the Non-Residential Property Fund index.  Compared to last year, the Contractors Index (coming off a low base) recorded the strongest increase, with cumulative market capitalisation values up 28 percent y-y. Suppliers also regained some losses from a year ago. Retailers and the Residential Property Fund indices are still lower by between 11 and 20 percent, showing the continued pressure on consumers and the residential property market.

According to latest financials, average profitability in the contractor's index was either maintained or improved, reaching an average of 5.1 percent in 2023.
