Preferred Construction Material Supplier and Competitor Survey April 2024

The Preferred Supplier & Competitor Survey (PSS) is a monthly survey conducted among contractors to determine material suppliers and brands involved in building and civil projects across the country.

The survey conducted in April 2024 analyzed 215 projects worth R10.6 billion, focusing on tenders awarded primarily in September 2023. The study identified concerns such as unsuitable projects and non-compliance with the POPI Act. Feedback on the Eyesizwe Contractor Development Programme (ECDP) was noted, highlighting challenges like non-payment issues and contractor performance. The construction environment faces issues like gangsterism affecting project progress and payment delays due to Treasury actions and municipal governance issues. Despite a significant amount of projects awarded in March 2024, there's a notable decline in construction tender activity, particularly in certain provinces.
