Construction Material Price Indices May 2023

The composite index for construction materials moderated to 5.3 percent in May 2023, slowing the average annual inflation for 2023 to 7.8 percent. Some of the core building materials, like ceiling boards, paint, bricks and sand, are however still showing a double digit increase, according to Stats SA's latest update.  The composite index for civil engineering materials slowed to an annual increase of 3.3 percent, with double digit increases still reported for machinery equipment used in mining and quarrying.

The composite index for domestic buildings slowed to 4.1 percent and 3.7 percent for commercial and industrial buildings.
