Construction Material Price Indices January 2015 - June 2023

The composite index for construction materials moderated to 4.4 percent in June 2023, the average annual inflation for 2023 to 7.2 percent. This is still above the average headline inflation of 6.6 percent for the first six months of 2023.  Some of the core building materials, like paint bricks,ceiling boards and electrical components are however still showing a double digit increase, according to Stats SA's latest update.  The composite index for civil engineering materials (excluding bitumen) slowed to an annual increase of 1.6 percent, with double digit increases still reported for mining machinery equipment used in mining and quarrying.

The composite index (Contract price adjustments provision or CPAP) for domestic buildings slowed to 3.3 percent (the lowest level in 34 months) and 2.9 percent for commercial and industrial buildings (lowest level in 36 months, since July 2020).
