Construction Labour Force 2008 - 2025Q3

The construction labour force increased by 10 percent since the 2nd quarter of 2025, adding 131 000 new job opportunities to the sector, led by Gauteng, Western Cape, Limpopo and Kwazulu Natal. Compared to the same quarter in 2024, the labour force increased by 1 percent, or 9 000 jobs to 1 390 000, with Gauteng showing the strongest increase, up 15 percent to 372 000, followed by Western Cape with a 3 percent increase to 259 000. This is a record high for the Western Cape, that has surpassed Kwazulu Natal as the 2nd largest construction employer in the country. Kwazulu Natal showed a notable increase during the 3rd quarter, but has shed jobs on a year on year basis.
