Weekly Construction Wrap 9 September 2026

South Africa’s construction pipeline strengthened this week, with the 2026 Construction Book increasing to R395.8bn across 110 projects, alongside progress in renewable energy, water, roads and data-centre investment. More tangible activity includes the Lion Thorn Solar Park reaching financial close, fresh procurement on the Tzaneen Dam project and SANRAL road works, while WBHO’s R37.6bn order book points to sizeable underlying workloads. However, the operating environment remains challenging: GDP contracted by 0.2% in Q2, diesel prices increased sharply, business confidence remains subdued, and late payments, municipal delivery failures and contractor-performance issues continue to constrain the conversion of a growing pipeline into actual construction activity.
