Pulse - Construction Project Activity February 2025

Industry Insight’s construction project activity database shows construction activity, at national, provincial and municipal level of building and civil projects out to tender, awarded, postponed and cancelled. Developed in association with Databuild, the dataset has more than 20 years history, depicting real time activity affecting the local construction market.

The value of awards increased strongly during the first two months, supported by the awarding of several multi billion road and water projects. Tender activity however remained muted, offering fewer opportunities for medium to smaller size contractors compared to the same period in 2024. Cancellations and Postponements continue but at a slower pace, with one province showing a more robust increase compared to other provinces, as the private sector are holding back building projects.  Some provinces are benefitting from an increase in SANRAL tenders, while others face a slowdown in terms of the number of grade 9 contracts out to tender.
