Provincial Construction Pipeline Dashboard June 2023

According to data as June 2023, the annual rate of change in the provincial construction pipeline accelerated to 14.6 percent y-y from 7.7 percent in the May 2023 update. This means the value of projects in the pipeline (based on approvals and tenders released) has increased by a faster rate. Provinces that showed a moderation in the growth in the pipeline include Western Cape, Mpumalanga, and Northern Cape, even though provinces are still expanding by double digit rates, except for Mpumalanga where the growth rate slowed to below 10 percent. Limpopo currently has the strongest increase in its pipeline, albeit at a slightly slower pace, from 68 percent y-y since our May report to 61.9 percent.

The provincial dashboard includes an overview for each of the nine provinces, including estimates related to their respective construction pipeline with regards to private and public sector building activity, for both the building and civil sectors.
