Preferred Construction Material Supplier and Competitor Survey June 2026

The Preferred Supplier Survey, pioneered by Industry Insight, evaluates the Market Exposure Rate (MER) of key construction material suppliers within the construction industry. MER is used to measure supplier participation in projects based on their exposure to project values rather than sales volumes.

Contractors prioritise reliable suppliers as procurment delays deepen

The June 2026 survey results found that supplier selection is still driven primarily by established relationships and professional specifications rather than price alone. At the same time, contractors reported growing frustration over delayed contract awards, cash flow constraints and uncertainty around municipal infrastructure spending. While several multi-billion-rand infrastructure projects are expected to support future material demand, contractors increasingly believe that the industry's biggest challenge is no longer securing work—it's getting projects onto site and completing them profitably...
