Mining Production of Building Materials 2025Q3
Building Materials Mining Production rebound in Q3 as Construction Shows Early Signs of Recovery
South Africa’s building materials market showed a notable rebound in the third quarter of 2025, outperforming broader mining activity and signalling renewed momentum in the construction value chain. Growth was supported by stronger demand for key inputs used in cement production, along with improving retail sales through hardware outlets. At the same time, several major public-sector projects—particularly from national road and water agencies—helped lift confidence and stimulate activity.
However, the sector is still working through the effects of a prolonged slowdown in tenders following the 2024 elections. Although public-sector activity has begun to stabilise, tender volumes and project awards remain below typical levels, keeping competition high and margins tight. Even so, rising employment and improving sentiment point to early signs of recovery, with the pace of tender delivery set to determine the strength of the sector’s medium-term outlook.
