Estimated Civil Tender Values: August 2025

Following a strong recovery in July 2025—the first real increase in 14 months—civil tender activity in South Africa moderated in August 2025. The estimated value of tenders released rose by 5 percent year-on-year to R6.9 billion, down from R8.2 billion recorded in July. Gauteng led the increase and accounted for the highest value of tenders released during the month, followed by KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape, both of which posted year-on-year growth. By contrast, the Free State, Western Cape, Mpumalanga, and Northern Cape recorded lower values compared with August 2024.

Despite the monthly improvement, cumulative civil tender values for the first eight months of 2025 remain 20 percent lower year-on-year (current prices). In contrast, the value of civil projects awarded over the same period surged by 85 percent year-on-year. However, award activity slowed sharply in August, with total values estimated at just over R3 billion—54 percent lower year-on-year. Once again, Gauteng led with the highest value of awards issued during the month.
