CRMS Dashboard May 2024
The Composite CRMS index lost 0.5 percent m-m in May 2024, following a similar (revised) loss in April. On a year on year basis however the index gained 10.1 percent.
The composite CRMS index (including market capitalisation values of contractors, suppliers, retailers, selected residential and non-residential property funds) lost 0.5 percent m-m in May 2024, (compared to the previous month), with gains in the Contractor's and Supplier's composite indices, pulled lower by losses in the Retailers and Property Fund indices. The Contractors Index gained recorded the strongest gain in May, up 12.7 percent m-m, with a 6.8 percent increase in the Suppliers Index largely supported by Afrimat's improved performance.
Compared to last year, the Contractors Index (coming off a low base) recorded the strongest increase, with cumulative market capitalisation values up 61.7 percent y-y. Suppliers also regained some losses from a year ago, up 35 percent. Retailers and the Residential Property Fund indices are still lower by between 11 and 20 percent, showing the continued pressure on consumers and the residential property market.
According to latest financials, average profitability in the contractor's index was either maintained or improved, reaching an average of 5.1 percent in 2023.
