Business and Construction Confidence Indices 4th Quarter 2023

Overall confidence levels were weaker in the 4th quarter of 2023, with just building contractors showing a surprising uptick to 43 (from 34 in Q3). Civil contractors were slightly less optimistic compared to Q3, following lower confidence also shown by consumers and business.  On average for the year, consumers and business were 23 percent less optimistic in 2023, building contractors confidence levels remained extremely low, and fell by a further 2 percent, with just civil contractors bucking the trend with their average confidence levels up 126 percent to an average of 42 percent, coming off dismally low levels in 2022.
