Building Plans Approved Provincial Summary August 2023

For the month of August, approvals declined across all of the higher capacity provinces, with an increase reported in the smaller provinces, such as Free State, Limpopo and Mpumalanga, contributing around 13 percent of total approvals for the month. Free State and Mpumalanga recorded an improvement in residential approvals (with moderate increase also reported in the Northern Cape), with Limpopo supported by an increase in the industrial market and home renovations.   Western Cape also recorded an increase in office and industrial space, but the steep decline in the housing market, pulled the overall change into negative territory. Gauteng showed a recovery in retail space approvals, with no improvement shown in any of the market segments in the Eastern Cape and Kwazulu Natal.
