Retail trade sales of hardware, paint and glass fell by 8.6 percent y-y (constant prices) in June, marking the 12th consecutive month of decline. Sales fell by 3 percent in the 2nd quarter of 2022 to R22.9bn, following the 10 percent decline in Q1. Trade sales in the construction market underperformed the overall market, as total retail trade sales (current prices) increased by 5 percent y-y in the 2nd quarter of 2022, despite sales falling by 2.5 percent y-y in June.
