Wholesale Trade and Retail Sales: Construction Materials May 2024
Wholesale of construction materials underperformed the overall wholesale sector and was one of the worst performing sectors in May 2024, as sales fell by 2.7 percent y-y (nominal) against an overall decline of 1.5 percent. By comparison the retail sector recorded a modest 1.9 percent increase in hardware sales, but also underperformed against the overall retail sector that increased by 4.1 percent. The hardware retail sector was the 2nd poorest performing sector in May, as textiles, clothing and footwear fell by 3.5 percent.
