Retail Trade Sales: Hardware March 2023

Retail trade sales of hardware, paint and glass, continues to decline, down 3.9 percent y-y in real terms for the month of March 2023, the 21st consecutive month of contraction. The retail market in the construction sector is strongly under performing the overall retail market. Total retail trade sales declined by 1.6 percent y-y in March, and an average of 1 percent for the 1st quarter of 2023, compared to a 5.7 percent y-y decline in hardware, paint and glass over the same period, making it the weakest performing segment in the retail sector for the 1st quarter.
