Quarterly Cementitious sales (estimate) and Imports: 2nd Quarter 2023

Domestic cementitious sales is estimated to have declined by 2.5 percent y-y in the 2nd quarter of 2023, following a 3.9 percent decline in the 1st quarter. This is in line with trends shown in trade sales of construction materials (based on an average of wholesale and retail trade sales) over the same period.  Sales are however pulled higher by stronger sales in the wholesale market with a stronger decline shown in retail trade sales. Imports of cement however rose by 36 percent y-y in the 2nd quarter, showing a stronger growth for the first six months of 2023 compared to domestic sales that fell by 3 percent.
