Preferred Construction Material Supplier and Competitor Survey November 2025

The Preferred Supplier Survey, pioneered by Industry Insight, evaluates the Market Exposure Rate (MER) of key construction material suppliers within the construction industry. MER is used to measure supplier participation in projects based on their exposure to project values rather than sales volumes.

The November 2025 PSS results highlight a construction sector still constrained by payment delays, supply-chain pressures, and slow award processes, with contractors across provinces reporting recurring operational challenges. In the Eastern Cape, project awards remain slow, and several public-sector projects face delays caused by late payments, community disruptions, and limited availability of specialised suppliers in remote areas. Gauteng contractors reported rising material-cost differences between provinces and continued affordability constraints in the residential market, while the Western Cape private sector is increasingly protective over supply chains, with major developers enforcing confidentiality. In KwaZulu-Natal, multiple school, road, and municipal projects worth over R200 million remain stalled or suspended due to client non-payment, reinforcing severe cash-flow difficulties among contractors..... download the full report here (available to subscribers)
