Preferred Construction Material Supplier and Competitor Survey May 2025

The May 2025 PSS report evaluates the Market Exposure Rate (MER) of key construction material suppliers, focusing on actual project exposure rather than sales volumes. The latest survey covered 57 projects worth R5.2 billion, mainly awarded in late 2024, with education, housing, and roads being the leading sectors. Despite a slight improvement in contractor participation, serious challenges persist in provinces like KwaZulu Natal, Limpopo, Eastern Cape, and North West, largely due to delayed public sector payments, low private sector profit margins, and rising construction costs.
