Mining Production of Building Materials 2026Q1
Building materials production increased by 4.8% y/y during the first quarter of 2026, marking the third consecutive quarter of year-on-year growth. While growth remains from a relatively weak base, the trend suggests that demand conditions across parts of the construction sector have gradually improved following the subdued conditions experienced through much of 2024 and early 2025.
The total value of building materials minerals sales rose 5 percent y-y (nominal) to R3.1bn in Q1, with sales up across grantie, limestone and other materials.
