Metro’s Capital Expenditure vs Budgets 2nd Quarter 2022/23 (December 2022)

Capital expenditure by Metro's failed to reach 30 percent of annual budgets by the 2nd quarter of the 2022/23 financial year (as at December 2022).  Compared to the same period in the 2021/22 financial year, cumulative expenditure did however increase by 6.2 percent y-y. Actual expenditure rates (against capital budgets) compared to the same period last year, was worse in 60 percent of the Metro's, including Buffalo City, City of Cape Town, eThekwini, Mangaung and Tshwane. City of JHB managed to improve their spending, having spent 27.6% of their annual budgets, compared to just 17 percent this time last year, resulting in a 69 percent y-y increase.

This dataset includes capital expenditure for infrastructure related departments, such as housing, health, transport, water and energy, for all eight of the Metro's from the 1st quarter of 2019/20 to the 2nd quarter 2022/23, and is updated quarterly.
