GNU Appointments and Infrastructure 2024/25

While President Ramaphosa’s new cabinet announced on 30 June 2024, is received with some criticism for being bloated (again), as many had hoped for a smaller not larger cabinet, some of the appointments are also being questioned. However, for our purpose, it is important to zone into infrastructure expenditure and how these portfolio’s may be impacted. The 2024 medium term expenditure budget announced in February 2024, allocated R153 bn towards infrastructure expenditure (excluding expenditure by the State-Owned Enterprises) for the 2024/25 financial period.

The direct impact is within those departments that have a higher infrastructure expenditure, allocated directly from the fiscus, whereas an indirect impact is within departments that have a broader economic impact that will either impact the country’s financial performance, accountability or investor sentiment. Improved investor sentiment is critical to attract higher levels of private sector investment that will drive higher levels of investment in construction....

This table includes the full list of the 7^th administration appointments, including Ministers and Deputy Ministers, affiliated political party, gender and infrastructure allocations for the 2024/25 financial year.
