Estimated Civil Tender Values: June 2023

The estimated value of civil projects out to tender was over 80 percent y-y higher (in nominal terms) based on tenders released during the 2nd quarter of 2023.  In rand terms this translates to an increase of at least R10bn compared to the same quarter in 2022. Western Cape recorded the highest values for the 2nd quarter,(an estimated R5.4bn) as tender values more than doubled, followed by Kwazulu Natal (R5bn), an increase of 52 percent.  Overall tender values improved off the back of an increase in higher grade projects out to tender (CIDB Grade 8 and 9), and increased by 67 percent y-y to an estimated R53bn in the first six months of the year. The value of road projects increased by 70 percent y-y and water projects by 53 percent.
