Estimated Civil Tender Values: January 2024

After ending the year 2023 on a high, tender values weakened during the 4th quarter of 2023, and this lower momentum was carried through in January 2024, with estimated civil tender values down 29 percent y-y, largely as a result of a sharp contraction in tender values in Gauteng when compared to January 2023. Western Cape was the only higher capacity province that recorded moderate growth in January, with smaller provinces such as Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West and Northern Cape also showing a mild expansion. The decline in Gauteng, Kwazulu Natal and Eastern Cape however pulled the overall rate into negative territory. Limpopo recorded the highest estimated road tender values in January 2024, exceeding R1bn, with several SANRAL projects released to tender during the month.
