CRMS Index: A composite index of market capitalisation values of selected companies listed on the JSE and involved in the local construction sector. Sub-indices include Contractors, Retailers, Suppliers, Residential and Non-Residential Property Funds.
It was a bloodbath in the financial markets, as the CRMS index slumped 8.8 percent m-m in September to 66.0 (from 72.4 in August). All the sub-indices performed weaker, led by the Contractors index down 10.3 percent, with the Retailers index performing the best of the worst, down 5.8 percent. 86 percent of the companies included in the compilation of the index, reported weaker market cap values in September. compared to 77 percent in August. On average for the year to date in 2022, the Retailers index showed the strongest drop compared to the 2021 average, with a weaker performance also shown in the Contractors index. The Suppliers and Property Fund indices both are on average marginally higher compared to last year.
