CRMS Dashboard March 2024

The Composite CRMS index gained 12.7 percent in the 1st quarter of 2024, following a 4.9 percent loss in the preceding quarter. On a year on year basis the index ended marginally lower, down 0.7 percent.

The composite CRMS index (including market capitalisation values of contractors, suppliers, retailers, selected residential and non-residential property funds) gained 12.7% q-q in 2024Q1 (compared to the previous quarter), following an overall loss of 5 percent in 2023Q4. An improvement was recorded across all of the sub-indices, except the retailer's index (that includes Cashbuild and Italtile) that recorded a 5 percent q-q decline.  Contractors and Suppliers  posted cumulative gains of around 11 percent, with non-residential property funds up 17 percent q-q.  Compared to the same period in 2023, the composite index ended marginally lower (-0.7 percent), with the composite contractors index finally showing some improvement, with an average gain of close to 20 percent y-y. Suppliers also recovered, up 17 percent, while the retailers index fell by 17 percent as the retail sector remains under pressure due to dwindling consumer demand. The Residential property fund index also weakened significantly on a year on year basis, with a softer decline reported in the non-residential property fund index.  All in all it would seem the best performance was recorded in the contractors and suppliers indices for the 1st quarter of 2024, not only showing an improvement compared to the end of 2023 but also to the comparable period last year. Contractors that supported these gains, include WBHO, Raubex and Calgro, with PPC, Sephaku and Afrimat offering support to the suppliers index.

According to latest financials, average profitability in the contractor's index was either maintained or improved, reaching an average of 5.1 percent in 2023.
