The Company Results Monitor Service (CRMS) index is a composite index of listed JSE companies’ performance in terms of market capitalisation values, active in the South African Construction Sector. 

Construction Stocks Split: Contractors Rise as Suppliers Stumble

The CRMS Index fell by 0.6% in June 2025 as strong gains in Balwin Properties (up 24.5%), PPC (up 10.7%), and Raubex were offset by steep losses in Afrimat and weaker performance in suppliers and non-residential property funds. While contractor and cement manufacturer profitability improved, retailers and suppliers remained under pressure amid declining construction material sales and weak consumer demand. Despite this, the index rose 7.1% year-on-year in the first half of 2025, signaling some recovery from 2024’s lows, though overall market sentiment remains cautious.
