CRMS Dashboard June 2024

The CRMS index is a composite index of listed JSE companies performance in terms of market capitalisation values, active in the South African Construction Sector.

The Composite CRMS index gained 12.8 percent m-m in June 2024, following a 0.5 percent loss in May 2024. On a year on year basis the index gained 20.2 percent. 

The composite CRMS index (including market capitalisation values of contractors, suppliers, retailers, selected residential and non-residential property funds) gained 12.8 percent m-m in June 2024,  (compared to the previous month), with gains shown across all the sub-indices. The Contractors Index showed a double digit increase for the 2nd consecutive month, with the retailers sub-index up by close to 20 percent m-m, but remains weaker on a year on year basis. The property fund indices also recovered in June, with an impressive performance compared to a year ago.

The CRMS index excluding the property funds, thus including Contractors, Suppliers and Retailers, gained a composite 8 percent y-y in the first six months of 2024, following the 17 percent loss in 2023.

According to latest financials, average profitability in the contractor's index was either maintained or improved, reaching an average of 5.1 percent in 2023.
