The composite CRMS index slipped 1.9 percent m-m in February 2023 to 69.9, following a monthly decrease of 2 percent in January. The contractors sub-index recorded the strongest increase since September 2021, with a month-on-month increase of 5.9 percent. Suppliers also gained, up 5.8 percent, while retailers ended flat. Property Funds were weaker, with a 5 percent contraction in the residential property fund sub index and a 5.1 percent decline in the non-residential sub-index. Despite the net overall losses in the CRMS index the monthly decline was softer compared to the 3.2 percent decline in the JSE. On average over the last 12 months, 61 percent of the companies included in the compilation of the index reported weaker market values, rising to 64 percent in February. Market values are taken as at the last day of the month.
