CRMS April 2025 - Non-Residential Property Funds drive sector gains
Non-Residential Property Funds drive sector gains
The CRMS Index, which tracks market capitalisation values of listed construction-related companies on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), rose by 4.5% month-on-month in April 2025. This increase was primarily driven by gains in the Non-Residential Property Fund index (up 7.4%) and a modest rise in the Contractors index (up 0.8%), despite losses in the Suppliers (-4.3%), Residential Property Fund (-3.4%), and Retailers (-0.6%) indices. Performance among contractors varied, with gains for WBHO and Calgro offset by declines in Raubex, Aveng, and Stefanutti Stocks. Similarly mixed results were seen in cement suppliers, where PPC showed gains while Sephaku and Afrimat declined. Retail trade in construction materials also decreased by 4.1% year-on-year in February 2025, reflecting ongoing consumer pressures. Profitability across the sector was mixed, improving notably among contractors and cement manufacturers but declining among retailers and residential property funds.
