Construction Activity January 2025
Industry Insight’s construction project activity database, shows construction activity, at national, provincial and municipal level of building and civil projects out to tender, awarded, postponed and cancelled. Developed in association with Databuild, the dataset has more than 20 years history, depicting real time activity affecting the local construction market.
The year kicked off to a promising start, with SANRAL announcing the awards of several multibillion-rand road projects. This increased the overall value of projects awarded in January to over R24bn, compared to R9.7bn in January 2024. Civil awards showed an improvement in January, while the building sector remained under pressure in terms of project awards. Despite an overall decline in tender activity during the month, tenders from government departments (including national, provincial and local) have increased, with a sharp decline in private sector tenders, supporting the overall decline. On the upside, fewer projects were postponed and cancelled by comparison to January 2024.
