Construction Activity Dataset April 2025

Industry Insight’s construction project activity database shows construction activity, at national, provincial and municipal level of building and civil projects out to tender, awarded, postponed and cancelled. Developed in association with Databuild, the dataset has more than 20 years history, depicting real time activity affecting the local construction market.

In April 2025, South Africa’s construction sector recorded a 2% rise in project value to R11.3bn, despite a 4% drop in the number of projects awarded. Mpumalanga dominated with a R3.7bn SANRAL road project, while Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal also saw significant awards. However, a sharp 37% decline in tender activity signals future risk, with project cancellations and postponements—especially in KZN—remaining high. While YTD project values soared 53% to R60.5bn, a shrinking pipeline could challenge sustained growth.
