Cement Trade Statistics Dashboard March 2026

South Africa’s cement imports remained elevated during the first quarter of 2026, with imported cement volumes reaching roughly 333,000 tons by the end of March. While imports were lower during January and February compared to the exceptionally high levels recorded in early 2025, March saw a sharp rebound in volumes, highlighting the continued pressure from imported product in the local market. Vietnam remained the dominant supplier of cement imports into South Africa, while Durban continued to serve as the main import entry point, although Cape Town’s share of imports has increased further in recent months.

The latest data also points to a continued imbalance between imports and exports, with South Africa remaining a net importer of cement by a significant margin. At the same time, clinker imports increased sharply during the first quarter of 2026, suggesting that imported raw materials continue to play an important role within the domestic cement value chain. Overall, the data reflects ongoing competitive pressures facing local cement producers amid subdued domestic market conditions and sustained import activity.
