Cement Trade Statistics Dashboard February 2026

Cement imports into South Africa moderated in early 2026, with volumes down around 29% year-on-year by February. This follows a record-high 2025, when imports reached approximately 1.49 million tons, suggesting the recent decline is more of a correction from an elevated base than a fundamental shift in demand. Imports remain a key feature of the market, with Vietnam continuing to dominate supply and low-cost imports sustaining pressure on local producers. While Durban still handles the bulk of imports, a notable trend is the rapid rise in volumes entering through Cape Town. Although from a smaller base, this reflects growing import penetration into the Western Cape and a broader geographic spread of competition across the country. Despite South Africa remaining a net exporter to neighbouring markets, imports continue to outweigh exports, reinforcing pressure on domestic producers. A stronger rand in early 2026 has further supported the competitiveness of imports, suggesting that, despite short-term volatility, imported cement will remain a key factor shaping the local market.
