Approvals for private sector building projects increased by 0.9 percent y-y in September 2022, with a 12.6 percent drop in new housing projects counteracted by a 14.9 percent increase in approvals for home renovations (mainly in the Western Cape). Kwazulu Natal helped to increase industrial approvals, while the North West offered support to the retail sector. The annual growth rate, measured over the last 12 months, slowed to 5.5 percent the lowest level since May 2021.
