Budget 2025 - The Budget speech postponed, included over R1 trillion to infrastructure
The 2025 Budget was postponed, following resistance from the GNU on issues linked to a proposed 2 percent Vat increase to 17%, that would primarily finance above inflationary increases for social grants and the public sector wage bill. The Minister of Finance needs to go back to the drawing board, but it is not certain how and if the GNU's influence will ultimately amend the proposed budget priorities when the Budget will now be delivered on the 12 of March 2025. Infrastructure expenditure was projected to increase by around 6 percent in nominal terms to over R1 trillion over the MTEF period, with an 18 percent increase in transport and logistics.
