Contractor Feedback Signals Slower Construction Momentum and Intensifying Competitive Pressure

The latest Preferred Supplier Survey (PSS) for April 2026 reflects a construction market that remains subdued, with many contractors reporting limited activity despite ongoing tender submissions. The survey covered 202 projects valued at approximately R6.4 billion, mainly awarded during September 2025, with civil projects accounting for roughly two-thirds of the sample. Contractor participation improved slightly to 42%, although a large portion of projects still fell outside the survey criteria or lacked sufficient supply-chain information.
