A range of infrastructure and development projects across South Africa aimed at enhancing service delivery and economic growth were announced during April 2024. The City of Cape Town is building a 7 MW solar power plant and investing R4 billion in electrical grid upgrades. Transnet is seeking partners for the Cape Town Port and developing a solar-powered desalination plant in East London. Johannesburg and Tshwane are focusing on water management and service delivery improvements, despite budget spending challenges. Other significant developments include large-scale housing and commercial projects in Durban, Richards Bay, and Limpopo, with a particular emphasis on renewable energy initiatives, including the largest solar farm under the Renewable Independent Power Producer’s Procurement Programme in the Free State.
