The real value of building plans approved for private sector construction increased by 2 percent m-m in February 2022, but was significantly lower (down 28 percent y-y) compared to the same month in 2021. Manufacturing Production February 2022

Manufacturing Production (seasonally adjusted index 2015=100) fell by 1.1 percent m-m in February 2022 following a 0.8 percent drop in January. Manufacturing of sawmilling and planing wood decreased by 1.1 percent, basic iron and steel products increased by 0.7 percent while production of glass and non-metallic products rebound with a 7 percent m-m increase.

Construction Materials Price Index: February 2022

According to Stats SA, materials used in the South African construction sector increased by 13.2 percent y-y in February 2022, from an annual increase of 14.5 percent in January. Several materials recorded double digit increases including paint, pipes, tubes and fittings, vinyl sheeting, bituminous mixtures, and steel.
