The March 2022 aggregated municipal creditors age analysis showed that 70.5 percent of total payments to creditors were still outstanding after 90 days, an increase from 68.1 percent in the previous quarter, and a significant deterioration from an average of 23 percent in 2013. In rand terms, municipalities still owe creditors R57.2bn after a period of 90 days, an increase of close to R5bn since December 2021.
