Metro's Capital Expenditure vs Budgets 1st Quarter 2024/25 (September 2024)
Following a 6.4 percent y-y increase in Metro's Capital Expenditure Budgets for the 2024/25 financial year, actual expenditure rose a mere 2 percent y-y in the 1st quarter of the current financial year (as at September 2024), following the 17 percent increase in actual expenditure during the 2023/24 financial year that ended in June 2024 that left R6.4bn of the R34.7bn unspent. The average contribution of capital expenditure to total expendture for Metro's stabilised at 10%, but with stark disrepancies between the different Metro's with Cape Town at 16 percent and Tshwane at 4.5 percent. However, for the 1st quarter of the 2024/25 financial year, aggregated metro capital expendture represented less than 1 percent, with the best performance by Cape Town at 9 percent, suggesting a slow start to the 2024/25 financial year.
