Selective Recovery in Civil Construction as Pipeline Strengthens in Pockets

The March 2026 civil construction update highlights a mixed but improving project pipeline, with activity largely driven by roads, water infrastructure and energy-related upgrades across provinces. While much of the market continues to be supported by maintenance and refurbishment projects, there are also select large-scale developments (Grade 9 projects) emerging in provinces such as Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga, signalling targeted investment in key infrastructure.

Overall, the outlook remains uneven but gradually strengthening, with pockets of higher-value activity supporting momentum in some regions, while others continue to lag. This suggests a selective recovery in the civil construction sector, rather than a broad-based upswing.
