Cement Trade Statistics Dashboard April 2026

Cement imports continued to increase, despite ongoing concerns of the negative impact of imported cement on the local manufacturing industry. Imports rose 23.3% year on year in April 2026, with 474 041 tons imported during the first four months of 2026. Bulk of exports came in via Vietnam at a FOB price of R640/ton. Around 11 000 tons were also imported from Mozambique (likely from a Chinese origin) in April 2026, and 35 000 tons in the first four months.

The April 2026 data confirms that imported cement continues to gain market share in South Africa. Import volumes increased significantly during the month and remained above 2025 levels on a year-to-date basis. Importantly, this growth occurred despite a substantial decline in average import values, with the landed customs value per ton falling by approximately 15% compared to 2025.

A second notable trend is the continued shift in import geography. While Durban remains the dominant entry point, Cape Town's importance continues to increase rapidly, with imports through the port almost doubling compared to the same period in 2025.
