
The Company Results Monitor Service (CRMS) index is a composite index of listed JSE companies performance in terms of market capitalisation values, active in the South African Construction Sector.
The Composite CRMS Index ended flat in November 2024, following a near 4 percent drop in October, despite a gains reported in the Retailers and Suppliers’ sub-indices. The Suppliers sub-index rose 3.8 percent m-m, along a 9.3 percent m-m cumulative gain reported in the Retailers sub-index. This was the 6th month-on-month gain in the Retailers sub-index, as the market anticpates more favourable returns off the back of lower interest rates that will ease consumer affordability constraints and showed a 22.1 percent gain on a year on year basis. PPC, Cashbuild and Italtile reported gains during November, but the suspension of Murray & Roberts, and lossess by WBHO and Stefanutti Stock, resulted in an overall much weaker performance in the Contractor Sub-Index, although significant gains of 72.6 percent have been reported on a year-on-year basis.
This analysis of the CRMS Index highlights contrasting fortunes across sectors, with pockets of resilience evident amid broader market challenges. The diversified performance across contractors, suppliers, and materials providers reflects shifting market dynamics and varying sectoral resilience.
